Connected Device Configuration and the Foundation Profile
Much of what's been written about Java[tm] 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) talks about the Connected Limited Device Configuration, or CLDC for short. The CLDC defines an extremely small subset of the Java Platform for very limited devices -- devices, like cellular telephones, that do not have enough memory or enough processing power to handle a full-blown Java implementation. There is, however, another configuration available that is midway between the CLDC and a full Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE[tm]) implementation: the Connected Device Profile, or CDC for short.

Building the CDC/Foundation Profile 1.0 FCS
The specified environment for building the J2ME CDC/Foundation Profile 1.0 FCS sample implementation for Linux/x86 is RedHat Linux 6.2. However, the latest release of RedHat Linux is 7.1. How do I build the CDC/Foundation Profile 1.0 FCS sample implementation using this latest version of RedHat Linux?

CDC Profiles
Profiles pick up where configurations leave off. They specify additional functionality for subsets of devices in a configuration. For example, a game console and an advanced PDA may fall under CDC, but neither device needs all of the functionality required by the other, so different profiles would be defined for game machines and advanced PDAs.
